Snowshoeing The Baraboo Bluffs

The Inn at Wawanissee Point is your private snowshoe resort with miles of picturesque, prairie and wooded trails here and next door, so close yet you’ll feel alone in the peaceful snowscape. We provide guests complimentary Redfeather Snowshoes to wear with hiking boots, and a simple lesson if it’s your first time snow walking.

Snowshoeing lets you discover natural areas not easily reached in other seasons. Freely explore off trail and follow your tracks back. You won’t get lost!

Plus snowshoeing requires less specific snow conditions than skiing. Check our Live Snow Cam at the bottom of each Web site page. If you see snow you can snowshoe.

Here you can spend several hours snow walking private trails through our 42 acres, or longer with side trips. Rest on benches to watch birds and squirrels, and listen to the trees.

Or trek through the 1,900-acre Merrimac Preserve, Parfrey’s Glen State Natural Area and Devil’s Lake State Park connected by the Ice Age Scenic Trail www.iceagetrail.org. We have trail maps.

Full Moon Shoeing

Skimming the trails on a clear night under a full moon’s light with snow sparkling like diamonds is a serene, moving experience. You must try it!

Try Our New Snowshoes!

We’ve always offered guests Redfeather Snowshoes www.redfeather.com made in La Crosse, Wis., primarily by disabled people. These great snowshoes are now even better with redesigned bindings, easier and faster. We’ve added new snowshoe models and the new bindings to our other snowshoes.

What To Bring

1. Winter boots or waterproof hiking boots, the taller, above-the-ankle style.
2. Several pairs of wool socks.
3. Waterproof snow pants or gaiters. Cotton pants get wet, cold and heavy.
4. A windbreaker and/or waterproof jacket.
5. Hat, and waterproof mittens or gloves.
6. Sunglasses, sunscreen and sunscreen lip balm.
7. Wicking long underwear of wool, silk or synthetic materials (no cotton) against your skin, topped with a fleece or wool middle layer. A zippered top helps regulate heat.
8. Fanny pack or small backpack for a water bottle and to stash your layers as you warm up.
9. Trekking poles reduce some of the weight and strain encountered on steep terrain and help if your knees aren’t in the best shape. For most of the trails around the Inn, they aren’t necessary. You can rent them at Wildside Action Sports in west Baraboo.
